These unassuming images provide an indexical record of a stroll through Hassanabad village in Hunza. Several homes located along the banks of a river running by the village were washed away in May 2022 when a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) from the Shishper Glacier devastated the area. Homeless and helpless, the residents affected by the natural disaster have been living in tents since then. The use of tents by other inhabitants reveals patterns of migration and survival that reveal the precariousness of their existence. The colour blue is dominant in all these images. Unpacking the semantics of this relationship between colour and landscape invites questions: how is meaning constructed and contested in a fragile landscape where natural and man-made, synthetic and holistic, survival and struggle unveil disjunctures and dissonances as they vie for space?
